A
Patchwork workshop set in SW France, |
|
Studio France are entering their 5th year of patchwork workshops hosted by Cathie Carriere; teacher and accomplished craftswoman in a wide range of patchwork techniques and styles. Each year Cathie has improved this week and has created something which is totally special. We are lucky enough to have several guests who return each year and enjoy everything that Cathie and Jo, our translator create to ensure you have a magical week. Focusing mainly on hand patchwork*, Cathie provides absolutely everything you need to create a wide range of designs. She can welcome everyone from beginners to the very experienced. Upon your arrival, you decide with Cathie, exactly what you would like to achieve during the week, whether it to be to learn something completely new, improve on those trouble areas or just enjoy a week of sewing, great company, delicious food and a that traditional shared experience that patchworkers know so well. |

| This
week is about patchworkers coming together as a group, sharing their skills
and working together side by side with Cathie on hand to offer instruction
and answer any questions. Cathie does not aim to teach in a class style
way, but allows you to choose your piece and working alongside you, she
ensures that you learn, practice all those techniques which make the difference
from self-taught work, to that fine professional look. Each course is
for a maximum of 6 students, therefore allowing Cathie to ensure each
student is working at their own pace and skill level. The course itself is held in a 14th Century Chateau with views over the Chateau's grounds and onto the countryside beyond. You will welcomed by the Chateau owners M. and Mme Chatelus enabling you experience the real sense of France by getting to know its people. There are opportunities to visit a French market at St Antonin Noble Val, Albi (the home of the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum as well as visiting a French patchwork/fabric shop). M. and Mme Chatelus also invite the group to dinner, a dinning experience in splender of a time gone by. * there is the opportunity for machine patchwork, but the machines available on site are sewing machines and not quilting machines. |

Day 1 Arrive You will be collected from Toulouse or train station and are driven for approximately 1 hour 15 mins through the beautiful French countryside of vineyards and rolling hills; this is your first taste of the beauty of South West France. Pippa and Julia
will show you to rooms and a welcome dinner will be served, at which
you will get to know the other students and your hosts. |
| After breakfast, you can walk across the village green to Chateau Labarthe and really get sewing. Cathie will spend all day with you from Monday to Friday and although some groups like to stay in the village for the whole week, Jo (our wonderful translator) and Cathie often plan visits to Albi or other places of interest, as they are both very knowledgeble about where to find the 'behind the scenes' fabric shops and like to ensure each group is treated as individuals who perhaps may like to spend an afternoon on a girls shopping expedition! | ![]() |
A delicious picnic lunch will be served in the grounds of the Chateau each day, where you will be able to see an enormous range of butterflies in amongst the lavender or take a swim in the Chateau's Italianate swimming pool. On the Friday evening, a celebration dinner is served and we show all the work done during the week and enjoy everything this fantastic week has offered. SaturdayStudio France will return you to the airport in good time for flights home. |
